Aside from this Read ME, please also read the Registration/Pricing document and the Preface in the TT Manual for additional general information regarding TattleTech®. Anyone who USES or DISTRIBUTES TattleTech is bound by the Conditions, Licensing Agreement, and Distribution sections included in the Registration/Pricing document.
PRELIMINARY NOTE/QUICK INSTALL:
Complete instructions for installation and use are in the manual. If you want to get a quick idea of what TattleTech does, make a COPY of TATTLETECH® MASTER and RUN the COPY.
KNOWN PROBLEMS/LIMITATIONS/INFORMATION REQUESTS:
TattleTech is known to be compatible with machines up to and including those running System System 6.04 through 7.5.2 with the following exceptions:
• TattleTech may have problems reporting the machine name on newer machines. If the "Machine" field in the General Hardware report does not show the same name as that printed on the Mac/Clone case, please report the following information to me by email:
- Model Name printed on the Mac/Clone case
- Machine ID number in parentheses next to the "Machine" field in the General Hardware report
• TattleTech may have problems reporting the processor speed on machines with a PPC 603 or 604 processor. If the "CPU Speed" field in the General Hardware report shows as "Unknown" or is not correct, please report the following information to me by email:
- Model Name printed on the Mac/Clone case
- Machine ID number in parentheses next to the "Machine" field in the General Hardware report
- Speed code in parentheses next to the Unknown in the "CPU Speed" field.
• TattleTech does not yet specifically report on PCI slots or IDE drives, although any disk volumes or monitors related to these hardware features appear in their respective reports. After I can get my hands on a PCI machine I will add a new report covering these slots.
• While the information that TattleTech provides is up to date (with the exceptions noted above), the user interface itself is beginning to age. An upgrade is planned for the future including the possible elimination of the separate program for configuring TattleTech itself. (This accomodated certain users needing to make their customized version of TattleTech as small as possible.) At any rate, ALL comments which you have related to any aspect of the program would be MOST WELCOME. I am most interested in ideas about how you would like to be able to access the information and what information is either missing or overkill.
KNOWN CONFLICTS:
• If you are using the Tab-File feature to build a database, please not that the FIELDS have CHANGED. Changes are fully documented in Appendix B. Directions for obtaining this appendix and the new FoxPro database are available on the internet via ftp at ftp.decismkr.com/dms.
• The Documentation in the "Postcard" containers does not display or print well under system 6, so please try to utilize it under System 7. The choice was to include it in this format or Word 5.0, and it was felt that more people had access to System 7 than Word 5.0. Also, the documents require Helvetica, Geneva, Palatino, Times, and Monaco, which most everyone should have. The document in Microsoft Word 5.0 format is available on the internet via ftp at ftp.decismkr.com/dms.
• Norton Directory Assistance 2.0X: There is a potentially fatal conflict with this extension when directing TT output to a file. Disable this Norton extension if you have problems. Norton Directory Assistance is no longer supported by Norton.
• QuickTime and QuickTime PowerPlug: On the PowerPC, these are listed multiple times in the INIT report when TattleINIT is installed. It is a function of the interaction of these extensions with systems prior to 7.5.

• The “General Hardware” and “General System” (renamed from “General Software”) categories were reconfigured and alphebetized and now show ALL possible information categories as opposed to only those available in your system configuration. This was changed to highlight what is not (but in most cases could) be available on your system. The only exception to this are items such as the Power Manager and the DuoDock features which only relate to portables and some items which are System Version specific.
• Added to General Hardware: DuoDock Attributes except in the case of a docked Duo with Virtual Memory on (due to an as yet un-identified bug). (Debugged by Julian Lewis-Booth and Simon Brock)

• Category and Type translations for various Nubus Boards were added. If you have a board that only shows a number for the sResource Category or Type, please let me know the numbers and what the board does so that I can update the interpretations.

• Added capability to list Applications, their version numbers, and their location. Both the Applications and the HL Applications choices are now in a submenu in the popup menu. (Requested by Steve Stearns)
• In conjunction with the “Applications” category, an additional main menu item was added called “Specify Volume”, explained above.
• The Traps reports were all moved to a submenu in the popup menu.
• The screen position and size of the TattleTale dialog is now remembered across invocations.
• The CPU information category has been somewhat reorganized and additional sound related information is available.
• The Volumes+Drives information has been reworked to show removable media drives that are connected but that don’t currently have a volume mounted in them and are also not entered in the drive queue. Some device drivers omit themselves from the drive queue when no volume is mounted and this attempts to bypass that shortcoming.
• Numerous problems with the Nubus report were corrected. Most problems revolved around a bug in the universal ROM which shows that built-in monitor SResources are active on machines that don’t even have Nubus slots. This was worked around and the presentation of slots contents was improved. The listing also now shows the active SResources for each card. (Powerbook bug reported by Jeff Harrow)
• The System Related report was reorganized to better reflect manager organization.
• The System Files report was improved to better reflect files which are currently affecting the operation of the operating system.
